The Gulf Coast Center, UTMB’s Center for Addiction Research and UTMB Family Medicine join with the recovering community from Galveston and Brazoria counties in the ninth annual Cruisin‘ 2 Recovery Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Garten Verein at Kempner Park, 2704 Ave. O, in Galveston. This event is in celebration of the 2014 Recovery Month “Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out.” This national endeavor encourages people to openly discuss mental and substance-use disorders and the reality of recovery. It fosters public understanding and acceptance of behavioral health, including ways faith leaders can continue to speak up in their communities and reach out to offer support.
