Sixty-six new students recently were welcomed to UTMB’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences during the annual Community of Scholars ceremony UTMB’s Levin Hall. The master of ceremonies was professor Joan Nichols, the school’s dean for student affairs. Sponsored by the Graduate Student Organization, the event featured a keynote address by professor Sheryl Bishop titled, “The Hard Work of Discovery.” Bishop is the recipient of the student group’s 2014 Outstanding Teacher Award. David Briley, president of the Graduate Student Organization, and David Niesel, dean of the graduate school, welcomed the group to campus and the start of their new scientific careers.
