A health care partnership between the Friendswood Independent School District and UTMB has been renewed after an even better than predicted, successful first year. Last September, FISD and UTMB opened the “Mustang Clinic” for District employees and their dependents inside UTMB’s existing facility at the corner of FM’s 528 and 518. The idea was to give District employees and their families a convenient, affordable place to go for minor illnesses. In addition to seeing patients, UTMB physicians and staff occasionally provided general medical advice on topics such as flu prevention, to the district. With the approval of the partnership extension, this fall UTMB will be working even more closely with FISD school nurses providing medical education and also hepatitis B vaccines to certain personnel.
