Many of you have dealt with this. When you get prescribed medication from your doctor, you find that name brand drugs cost a lot more than the generic form. Is there a difference between the two? And why does your doctor go with the name brand drug first? Dr. Howard Brody at UTMB tells KTRH that the generics work just fine. “They’ve been tested by the FDA to prove that they are the same. That’s why they are approved. If you look at it from a cost point of view, the generic would have the advantage,” Brody said.
