A new magnet program at Ball High School, with up to 150 students, will feature laboratory and clinical sequences designed to provide students with competitive advantages that far surpass standard high school programs. Students will be required to take pre-advanced placement and advanced placement courses as well as be exposed to career-themed information and real-world experiences with internship opportunities at UTMB. Currently, 18 Ball High students are part of a Research and Design course that has them spending time in UTMB research laboratories, working on experiments and projects being undertaken by graduates or post-doctorate students. The biomedical engineering and the medical professions magnet community is designed to go after even more health care related internships whether at UTMB or at Galveston College, or another community partner actively involved in the new Ball High communities.
