Jan. 27 through Feb. 2 is National Drug Facts Week in Galveston. This week-long health observance is organized by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The week provides an opportunity for teens to ask questions about drugs and to get scientific answers from experts. As part of the observance, students at participating schools are doing poster contests, educational games and internet chats with national experts. Additionally, addiction experts from UTMB’s Center for Addiction Research are available to answer students’ questions about drugs, as well as provide a hands-on demonstration with an impaired driving simulator, a vehicle that imitates the effects that distraction and impairment from alcohol and other drugs have on a motorist’s driving skills.
