Medical school ceremony is Saturday
More than 200 students become medical doctors on Saturday when the UTMB School of Medicine holds its 123rd commencement.
Former State Sen. Steve Ogden, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee from 2004 until he retired earlier this year, is the keynote speaker.
Free screening mammograms
Each year, UTMB and The Ruth Kempner Endowment for Breast Cancer team up to provide free screening mammograms for uninsured women in the community through a mobile mammography van that goes to two area churches.
Participants must preregister and meet a number of criteria that include being a legal resident of Galveston County, between 40 and 64, uninsured and other requirements.
Sunday, June 2 is the deadline to register for the screening that will be offered 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 9 at the St. Augustine Episcopal Church, 1410 41st St., in Galveston.
Registration packets are available at the church or the UTMB breast imaging department at the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes in League City or in Galveston.

Transplant support
The Texas Transplant Center support group meets 5:30 to 7 p.m. June 4 at the Multispecialty Center at Victory Lakes Town Center, 2660 Gulf Freeway S., in League City.
The group is open to all pre- and post-transplant patients.

Cancer survivors day
UTMB is hosting its third annual Celebration of Life for cancer survivors June 5 in League City and Galveston. There will be music and refreshments and cancer survivors will build a “human chain,” a joining of hands in support and memory of those affected by cancer or cancer treatment.
The UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes, 2240 Gulf Freeway S., in League City, hosts the first event from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The second event takes place in Galveston on the lawn in front of John Sealy Hospital, at Eighth and Market streets from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
