Dr. Courtney Townsend is the new president of the American College of Surgeons, becoming the 97th leader of the largest organization of surgeons in the world. Townsend, who holds the Robertson-Poth Distinguished Chair in General Surgery, has served as editor-in-chief of the “Sabiston Textbook of Surgery: The Biological Basis of Modern Surgical Practice” since 2000 and was also the editor of “Surgical Oncology.” He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, the journal Surgery and The American Journal of Surgery.
Bryant board member of international transfusion association
Dr. Barbara Bryant, professor and vice chair of pathology and the medical director of the University of Texas Medical Branch’s blood bank, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Association of Blood Banks. The AABB is an international association in the field of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies.
Temple board member of Texas psychological group
Jeff Temple, associate professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, was elected to the board of directors of the Texas Psychological Association, one of the largest psychological associations in the U.S. Temple also is director of behavioral health and research in the department of obstetrics and gynecology as well as associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
